STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Janet, drawing is a late-life adventure in seeing and representing. She prefers to draw people in motion\u2014whether it\u2019s the physical motion of a full body, or emotions moving across a face, or interactions with others or or with the surrounding environment. The experience of putting pen to paper, and making split second decisions about where to move the nib next, never fails to excite her. She is thrilled to have abandoned pencil under-drawings, so that now her pen and her reflexes spontaneously carry the lines to a final image that is itself a discovery\u2014showing more about her subject than a photo ever could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Janet is an editor, author, and translator\u2014and as an artist, a late bloomer. She is developing her skills with pen and ink and watercolor after having spent most of her life working with words. She enjoys urban sketching as well as portrait painting and drawing. From her home in chilly Burlington, she dreams of traveling through the Middle East with sketchbook in hand. She did as much recently in North- East Syria, as was documented in an independent film, Road to Rojava<\/em>, which is currently in post-production and will appear later in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
