Gabrielle Tsounis

I am a painter, an illustrator, a travel photographer, and a student of life. My work does not define me because I have many interests and expressions. Instead, it represents specific thoughts ideas, and visions. For this reason I use a variety of mediums– oil, acrylic, ink, collage, mixed material, and I embrace diverse styles: portraiture, landscapes, and icons. The subject influence by factors such as culture, religions, social issues, and my mixed heritage. My work is a process that has many layers. How I perceive my surroundings is projected in my artwork: often times, although much of my work is premeditated, some of my best images are generated spontaneously.

I love to create paintings of place that are richly evocative of diverse cultures that I have experienced in my world travels. My landscapes and renderings of buildings are often photographically realistic. This may be due to the fact that I often paint from photographs. Majority of the time texture is present in my work that makes the viewers want to reach out and touch it. There is a natural drive to create art which is spontaneous as well as constant. Pursuing the urgency of art allows me to be innovative and instills a sense of well-being.
