“My new work is a meditation on memories of growing up and traveling in the Midwest. Remembering a place can conjure up dreamlike images, and so my paintings have magic-realist depictions of birds, planes, and domestic objects grounded by a backdrop of maps. The work is done in encaustic, a paint made from pigment mixed with melted beeswax and resin, which allows me to layer imagery and achieve a luminosity and depth that that I hope will engage viewers.” –Paige Berg Rizvi
