It addresses the\u00a0dichotomy of you\/me, and the negotiations that we establish between them\u00a0in order to build our sense of uniqueness. In this project she focuses\u00a0in the area of workspace \u2013 The Studio \u2013exploring primarily The Studio as\u00a0a private and intimate space for experimentation to internalize and find\u00a0refuge from outside interferences.<\/p>\n<p>Casanovas graduated from Belles Arts, Barcelona University, Spain, with\u00a0printmaking as a major, and obtained an MFA in Photography from\u00a0Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, New York. She has participated in\u00a0exhibitions in locations such as Barcelona, Madrid, New York and\u00a0Chicago. Awarded residencies include MacDowell Colony, New Hampshrie, and Frans\u00a0Masereel Centrum, Belgium. She has been received awards three times from CONCA and\u00a0an EADC Art Grant in Spain. She lives and works in New York City.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1573\" title=\"The Best Is Yet to Come 1 by Lisa Hamilton\" src=\"http:\/\/vermontartguide.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lisa-Hamilton-The-best-is-yet-to-come-1-web-300x306.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vermontartguide.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lisa-Hamilton-The-best-is-yet-to-come-1-web-300x306.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vermontartguide.com\/content\/wp-content\/uploads\/Lisa-Hamilton-The-best-is-yet-to-come-1-web.jpg 588w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Lisa Hamilton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Using simple tools and materials commonly found in a painter\u2019s studio,\u00a0artist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lisahamilton.net\" target=\"_blank\">Lisa Hamilton<\/a>\u00a0constructs images, sculptures and short videos that\u00a0question the limits of perception, the transmission of meaning and the\u00a0relationship between the spectator and the visual object.\u00a0 In recent\u00a0investigations, she engages the formal language of abstraction, color\u00a0theory and the psychological dynamics of seeing to examine the point\u00a0where observation and participation meet.\u00a0 Here, she proposes, is the\u00a0critical site where form yields content. In her work, experiments in\u00a0perception, intellectual inquiry, emotion and material invention\u00a0converge to generate meaning through the experience of looking.\u00a0 In her\u00a0search to articulate ideas in concrete form, Hamilton has invigorated\u00a0and expanded the contemporary discourse on abstraction.<\/p>\n<p>Trained formally as a painter at Cooper Union (BFA, 1996) and Hunter\u00a0College (MFA, 2003), Hamilton was the recipient of a Fellowship in\u00a0Painting from the New York Foundation for the Arts, a fellow at the\u00a0MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, Art Action Kyoto and The Atlantic Center for\u00a0the Arts.\u00a0 She has had solo exhibitions in New York and Kyoto, exhibited\u00a0her work at the National Academy Museum, the Kyoto Municipal Museum of\u00a0Art, and in exhibitions in Tokyo, Berlin, Atlanta, Los Angeles and\u00a0Mexico City amongst other locations. Hamilton\u2019s work as been reviewed in\u00a0<em>Art in America, The New York Times<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The Brooklyn Rail<\/em>.
