Relocating to Brooklyn and then Maine, she continued her studies at Parsons School of Design and the Portland School of Art. Longmaid went on to obtain a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Virginia. In 1994, she moved to Shelburne, Vermont and resumed painting, inspired by the beauty of the Vermont landscape. Longmaid\u2019s work was featured in the <a href=\"http:\/\/womeninthearts.wordpress.com\/2010\/07\/16\/woman-to-watch-kate-longmaid\/\" target=\"_blank\">Women to Watch 2010<\/a> exhibition \u201cBody of Work: New Perspectives on Figure Painting\u201d at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C.
