She is one of the artists at the Milton Art Center, a new art space created by the <strong>Milton Artists\u2019 Guild<\/strong>. We write about their endeavour in the issue.<\/p>\n<p>In the issue\u2019s <strong>editorial<\/strong>, \u201cWe Are Not Alone\u201d, <em>Vermont Art Guide<\/em> Editor Ric Kasini Kadour rallies against Modernism\u2019s assertion that \u201cWe\u2019re born alone, we live alone, we die alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>\u201cIt is a myth that we are alone, a terrible story we tell ourselves that feeds the ego of our success, but isolates us from others and prevents us from relating to others. Good things happen when people get together. Great things happen when artists get together.\u201d<\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">&#8211;Ric Kasini Kadour<\/p>\n<p>We report on bold changes happening at the <strong>Chaffee Art Center<\/strong> in Rutland; the loss of twenty artist studios in <strong>Burlington\u2019s South End Arts District<\/strong>; and how the <em>Vermont Art Guide<\/em> is partnering with the <strong>Vermont Arts Council<\/strong> on an exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>In January, over five million people participated in over five hundred marches to protest the election and inauguration of the new president. The symbol for the movement, the pink Pussy hat, moved Colchester artist <strong>Carol MacDonald<\/strong> to make a print. We tell the story. A woodcut by Woodstock artist <strong>Jeanne Amato<\/strong> was collected by the Boston Athen\u00e6um. We\u2019ve got that story too. And we report on how nine Vermont artists came together to make art and raise funds for <strong>Vermont Works for Women<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cRaw Painting,\u201d we profile Charlotte artist <strong>Jane Ann Kantor<\/strong>. Her newest series, \u201cRaw\u201d, is forceful, blending photo transfers and street-art inspired abstract painting\u2014think urban detritus\u2014into a poignant essay on grief and the relentless tension between life and death. We look at how Kantor channels hard work, experimentation, and grief into her artwork.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, <strong>Chris Jeffrey<\/strong> has built a reputation as a talented and versatile stained glass artist in central Vermont. His new work&#8211;light installation&#8211;plays with light, but in a completely different way.<\/p>\n<p>This summer, Pawlet photographer <strong>Stephen Schaub<\/strong> is curating an exhibition at the <strong>Southern Vermont Art Center<\/strong> that is bringing together photographers at the top of their game from around the world. What they have in common is that they all work with film.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>\u201cFilm isn\u2019t dead, far from it. In fact in many ways, I\u2019d argue, it\u2019s just getting started.\u201d<\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">&#8211;Stephen Schaub<\/p>\n<p>Summer in Vermont is the season of outdoor sculpture. The state is blessed with a bonanza of sculpture parks, open to the public. Some of these places make great picnic spots. Others make for a great road trip. All of them provide an opportunity to experience large scale sculpture in a natural environment. We visit sculpture at <strong>Lemon Fair Sculpture Park<\/strong> in Shoreham; <strong>Cold Hollow Sculpture Park<\/strong> in Enosburg Falls; <strong>West Branch Gallery &amp; Sculpture Park<\/strong> in Stowe; <strong>Gerald K Stoner Underhill Ironworks<\/strong>; <strong>Vermont Arts Council Sculpture Garden<\/strong> in Montpelier; and <strong>Middlebury College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where to See Art<\/strong>, our curated list of <strong>147 places to see art<\/strong> around the state.
