From July to October, the Better Bennington Corporation produces an art and activity-filled First Friday event in Downtown Bennington, 5-8PM. The Art Walk features work by area artists in stores, restaurants, and galleries. There’s also live music, retailer specials and special events, a gallery tour, and more! First Friday Programs are available at the Better Bennington Welcome Center at 215\u00a0South Street and at participating venues.<\/p>\n
The Bennington Museum presents “Grandma Moses: American Modern”. The museum writes, “So you think you know Grandma Moses? Little old lady who began painting folk pictures of country life at the age of 78 and then became the most famous artist in America. Would you ever associate her name with Modernism? Yet the same people who embraced Modernism in America in the 1930s and 40s were also collecting folk art. It was at this time that curators and collectors began to make connections between what they called the ‘American Primitives’ and the most advanced contemporary art. In fact, the first public exhibition of Grandma Moses\u2019s paintings was held at the Museum of Modern Art in 1939, and was organized by Sidney Janis, who later became famous as the gallerist who represented Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. The event is free and open to anyone. Most venues are open from 5-8PM, but some are\u00a0open earlier or later. Art Map Burlington<\/a><\/em> is the official guide to First Friday Art, pick up your copy around town.<\/p>\n From July to October, Burlington artist Johanne Durocher Yordan parks her mobile art gallery in front of the Farrell Vending Company building at 405 Pine Street. Yordan offers visitors a chance to meet the artist and purchase original work, prints, cards and more. Many offer meet-the-artist receptions, some with refreshments, and a few present live music. Visit the Walk website<\/a> for a map and complete listings with examples of the art on display as well as feature articles for the month; a printed version of the Walk guide is available at all venues, a number of other downtown locations, the I-91 Welcome Center, and many local lodging options. Official Walk hours are 5:30 to 8:30, but many venues are open earlier, and a few remain open later.
