Brattleboro\u2019s monthly First Friday celebration of the arts offers 30 to 40 exhibit openings at galleries, eateries, and other venues in the downtown and a few satellite locations nearby. Many offer meet-the-artist receptions, some with refreshments, and a few present live music. Visit the Walk website<\/a> for a map and complete listings with examples of the art on display as well as feature articles for the month; a printed version of the Walk guide is available at all venues, a number of other downtown locations, the I-91 Welcome Center, and many local lodging options. Official Walk hours are 5:30 to 8:30, but many venues are open earlier, and a few remain open later. Most exhibits run all month long; see listings for more details and venue contact information.<\/p>\n At Vermont Artisan Designs<\/a>, the featured artists for March include students of the Putney School participating in Student Art Month, David Wade (sculpture), and Putney-based artist Carol Keiser (painting). The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center<\/a> welcomes you to “Open Call NXNE 2018”, which deals with paper, its inherent properties, and the range of possibilities it offers in the hands of an artist. Anila Quayyum Agha\u2019s sculpture and light installation,\u00a0Shimmering Mirage<\/em>, \u201ccover(s) and beautify(s) all within it, and suggesting the underlying orderliness of the cosmos revealed through the purity and symmetry of geometric design.\u201d BMAC serves as the Vermont affiliate for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a prestigious national program that offers exhibition opportunities and scholarships to young artists and writers. The event is free and open to anyone. Most venues are open from 5-8PM, but some are\u00a0open earlier or later. Art Map Burlington<\/a><\/em> is the official guide to First Friday Art, pick up your copy around town.<\/p>\n Meet Burlington artist Will Gebhard at the opening of “Fomo” at Foam Brewers<\/a>. This is Gebhard’s second solo show and deals with perceived depth, split-second decision making, indecision, anxiety, and surrender through vibrantly painted wood cutouts. Also, at the opening, enjoy “Youth Lagoon” a new canned beer with a label designed by the artist. And from 8-10PM, enjoy live music by Mal Maiz.<\/p>\n At Frog Hollow<\/a>, meet the artists who received grants from Frog Hollow in 2017. The March exhibit features work by Diane Shullenberger, Eve Jacobs-Carnahan, Francesca D’Elia, Holly Walker, Irene Lederer LaCroix, Jane Kirby, Jeremy Ayers, and Jon Black. Their work spans a variety of traditional craft media, including jewelry, clay, and fabric.
