Julia Jensen<\/h2>\n

Julia Jensen works in oils and encaustic. She divides her time between southern Vermont and Nantucket, and her work reflects her deep connections to both regions. \u201cJensen\u2019s vibrant yet restrained palette and the quality of light in her paintings harken to the Skagen and Funen painters of her ancestral Danish homeland. Jensen\u2019s oils are gestural, expressive, full of energy and motion,\u201d said 2018 Artist to Watch Guest Curator Danny Lichtenfeld. \u201cHer encaustics have literal depth to them, achieved by melting beeswax and resin, scraping, reworking, and remelting.\u201d Jensen has said that working with encaustic gives her \u201cthe feeling of working outside of time, or of entering a timeless realm.<\/p>\n

“Artists to Watch 2018” is a survey of contemporary Vermont artists that appears as special features in <\/em>Vermont Art Guide #6 and #7 and in a two-part exhibition at the Vermont Arts Council.<\/em><\/p>\n

Julia Jensen divides her time between Vermont and Nantucket. A graduate of Tulane University with a BA in Art History, Jensen has been painting for 20 years. She has worked on her own and with many local and regional teachers and artists including Bill Hunt, Ric Campman and Julia Zanes.
