This is nearly 1,000 times the “natural” or “background” rate and many biologists say is greater than anything the world has experienced since the vanishing of the dinosaurs nearly 65 million years ago.

The artists presenting their paintings in “On the Brink: Artists Take Action” have an abiding love of nature and all its complexities. Although not all scientists, they share a common bond in their frustration with the impact of human activity on our planet and the creatures that share it. Painting in their own style, each artist chose one or more species listed as endangered or threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and other wildlife watch groups and have depicted them in life-sized scale. These creatures are but a few currently on the brink of extinction. The artists’ goal is to inspire others to pay attention, to become educated about what each of us can do and to take action.

Most of the paintings are for sale and a percentage of proceeds will be donated to the conservation of endangered or threatened species. The artists taking action are Jan Brough, Marcia Hammond, Joy Huckins-Noss, Martha Judy, Linda Mirabile, Adelaide Murphy Tyrol, Shearon Murphy, Susan Parmenter, Lark Upson and Suzanne Stryk.

(adapted from the venue’s press materials)

INFORMATION

Gallery at Central Vermont Medical Center
Lobby
130 Fisher Road
Berlin 05602
(802) 279-6403

Hours:
Open every day

MAP | WEBSITE | FACEBOOK

I

ART ON VIEW On the Brink: Artists Take Action at the Gallery at CVMC in Berlin April 12-May 31, 2018 Scientists estimate that 150-200 species of plant, insect, bird, and mammal become extinct every 24 hours.
