Julia Shipley’s reading for Exposed is inspired by short pieces from her project: Ten Sabbaths: Drawing on Stillness, created during a Habitat for Artists residency. During ten consecutive Sundays throughout summer and fall 2011, she’s been exploring “clearings”, the inherent and necessary pauses within the labors of farming, and creating pieces of writing suitable for those restive interstices.
Jeroen Nelemans is interested in perception and how we are conditioned to experience the moving image, specifically how the digital image can manipulate contemporary notions of sight and seeing.
Classical voice/guitar duo Gretchen Farrar and Francisco Roldán perform selections from their recording “Interweaving”, which offers a variety of styles from the Renaissance to the contemporary, consisting of songs from Spain, Cuba, Puerto Rico, England and the United States.
Carrick Bell’s “Von hinten nach vorne, fehlerlos/Backwards, with no mistakes” is a re-presentation of both versions of Michael Haneke’s Funny Games (1997/2007). Bell is a video artist based in Berlin, Germany.
“the looking, on glass” is a series of four vinyl installations on storefront windows, which displays poetic excerpts from four different writers: Alisha Laramee, m. pinchuk, Shannon Schmidt, and Julia Shipley.
