Childhood, Self, and Aging

ARTIST TO WATCH

Jason Galligan-Baldwin

Years ago, when the Jason Galligan-Baldwin’s mother gave him a box filled with his childhood drawings of astronauts, report cards, and poorly-received term papers, he saw it as a new artistic undertaking. “The series of paintings began because I wanted to use the contents of this box as the background, a starting point from which to go in a new direction,” said the artist. Galligan-Baldwin’s ability to mine his past and explore childhood, self, and aging while making colorful, reflective, and joyous work makes him an artist to watch.

“Artists to Watch 2018” is a survey of contemporary Vermont artists that appears as special features in Vermont Art Guide #6 and #7 and in a two-part exhibition at the Vermont Arts Council.
