Collect This!: Storefront Bottles

In each issue of Vermont Art Guide, we offer a selection of art that we think would make a worthy addition to anyone’s collection of art. Sometime, we recommend a piece because the artist has made a name of themselves and in doing so, made a significant contribution to the history of Vermont art. Other times, we recommend a work of art because we think it is brilliant or beautiful. The publication has absolutely no stake in the sale of these works. We simply think you should buy art and enjoy it.

Storefront Bottles by Wendy James

An active participant in Burlington’s art scene, Wendy James has won several awards at the Art’s Alive Festival of Fine Art, including second place in the 2014 edition. She sometimes shows her work at Frog Hollow and the Bryan Memorial Gallery in Jeffersonville. Her oil paintings originate from photographs. She incorporates wide-angle views, diagonals, close cropping, and unusual viewpoints in scenes of the mundane “in between moments”. She often places bright colors next to muted tones or shadows. Her goal is to make the viewer rethink everyday scenes and objects and “taste them as a new color flavor.” Storefront Bottles (24” x 36”; oil-on-canvas) is available directly from the artist. To purchase, email the artist. The price is $1200.
