Chris Jeffrey: Fluorescent Light in Vacant Storefront
February 15-March 15, 2017
Reception: Saturday, February 25, 6-9PM
Overnight Projects presents Fluorescent Light in Vacant Storefront, a site-specific light installation by Montpelier-based artist Chris Jeffrey. Using colorful fluorescent light fixtures, Jeffrey has created a vibrant installation that illuminates an empty storefront in the historic Winooski Block building for approximately four weeks.
Jeffrey utilizes fluorescent lights to construct sculptural installations and environments that explore light, color, and architecture. A stained glass artist by trade, Jeffrey evokes spaces associated with the otherworldly (dreams, chapels, etc.) to ignite otherwise dormant interiors with a lively yet mysterious quality.
The Winooski Block building, recently purchased by Redstone, was constructed in 1862. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. As the city of Winooski has grown, the red brick building has remained a focal point, serving as a visual anchor to the past.
