Maltex Building, Burlington
Through August 31, 2017
This South End Arts District office building has four floors of hallway art curated by Burlington City Arts. Digital photographer Stephen Beattie “enjoys capturing natural beauty wherever I am. I see in color.” Douglas Biklen is a fine art photographer who specializes in abstract images. Mark Collier “entered the world of photography at age 10, when his mother, a Vermont school teacher, brought home a camera and darkroom kit.” Photographer David Griggs strives “to suggest a sense of intimacy between the viewer and the subject of the image.” About his practice, painter Neil Berger says, “Wyeth said one’s work goes as deep and as far as one’s love. I believe that.” Water, with all its varied dimensions, fascinates painter Judy Hawkins, who is drawn to and inspired by its simplicity and changing nature. Through imagery, painter Kari Meyer attempts “to portray ideas that words cannot, like the archetypal beauty that connects all things.” Jay Vogler’s paintings embrace and reflect a mixture of “the mundane, the absurd, the juvenile, and the mature.” Longina Smolinski’s painting and sculpture reflect “the immediacy of the present—neither reminiscing in the past nor moving towards the future. It is entirely me. Here. Now.”
This information about the Maltex Building was featured in Vermont Art Guide #4. Each issue of Vermont Art Guide has over a hundred places to see art around the state.
