Opening Reception: “Car Dreams”: Aaron Stein at Frog Hollow

Opening Reception: Friday, August 3, 5-8PM

Frog Hollow and event sponsor The Automaster present a  unique show featuring the license plate creations of automobilia artisan Aaron Stein. Car Dreams” will feature reclaimed automotive furniture, map sculptures, assemblages and constructions by Burlington based artist Aaron Stein.

“My artwork explores the love and hate relationship our automotive consumerism forces us all to experience. I hope to confront the viewer with the same basic conflict I struggle with every day. How can something so influential in the design of the landscape and destructive to the environment have become a way of life? The phenomenon fascinates me….

“The feelings I have about cars and trucks are flooded with romantic and nostalgic admiration for these rolling sculptures. My earliest memories are experiences with vehicles. The romantic feeling I get when I see abandoned vehicles sitting in a field or on the edge of a wood runs deep.”

About Aaron Stein: “Automobilia” may evoke very different reactions in different people, but for sculptor Aaron Stein, it means art. Old license plates, photos of cars used as planters, a shadow box with a police cruiser and a doughnut- whichever of his automobile-themed pieces one looks at, Aaron Stein’s nostalgic assemblages will be sure to evoke a response. Having worked in many mediums, Stein draws from all of them in creating his sculpture. Drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, wood and metal working are all a part of his creative process. Collecting found objects, buying toys, wrecking toys- these too form a basis for his art. “Scavenged” materials show up throughout his work, reflecting the importance of reuse.
