“Vermont Journal: Small Paintings from Four Seasons”: Susan Abbott
Susan Abbott is known nationally for her unique large-scale still life and landscapes . In this show “Vermont Journal”, she uses her eye for vivid color and unusual composition on a more intimate scale. Abbott creates these en plein air paintings as a way to pay attention to changing light and color in the landscape outside of her studio, and the result is a vivid visual journal of Vermont’s four seasons.
Susan Abbott graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA and MFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has worked as a professional artist since that time, exhibiting in galleries and museums around the country. Her paintings are represented in numerous corporate and individual collections. Her work has appeared in publications such as American Artist, International Artist, and Watercolor Magazine, and has been featured on NPR’s Diane Rehm Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show. She is the recipient of grants from the Vermont Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council, and of numerous private and public painting commissions, including the “Art of Action” project. In Vermont, her paintings are represented by West Branch Gallery in Stowe and Gallery North Star in Grafton. She lives in Marshfield.
