Vergennes Arts Walk
Friday, July 22, 5-7PM
The Vergennes Arts Walk returns for July on the 22nd, 5-7PM, presented by The Vergennes Downtown Partnership and Creative Space Gallery. Changing exhibits in downtown businesses and galleries are warmly welcoming events that go far beyond “business as usual” to feature paintings, sculpture, furniture, glass and porcelain. You can also experience music, dance and poetry.
Take the opportunity to explore the beautiful Beaux-Arts Bixby Library to view artwork from the “Half-Round Room” upstairs to the Otter Creek Room downstairs. Paintings or sculpture in the windows of Main Street businesses invite you to stop and explore. Pedestrian-friendly Main Street extends from the magnificent waterfall on Otter Creek, past the Bixby Library and classic village green to the Vergennes Opera House, and on to the Kennedy Brothers Factory building.
Art galleries are a distinctive part of downtown Vergennes. Creative Space established its all-volunteer co-op gallery on Main Street in 2009, with the mission of “Inspiring a connection between artwork and community well-being.” Artist Sean Dye brought his studio and teaching skills to Creative Space in 2014. The following year saw the arrival of Raintree Jewelry and the studio and gallery of artist Peter Fried, who explains, “By making art, we can feel that we are creating meaning and purpose. When we are without purpose, on the other hand, we may feel we are simply taking up room on an already crowded planet.”
The Vergennes Arts Walk takes place the fourth Friday of the month in the summer. The next Arts Walks are on August 26 and September 23.

Vergennes is known as the “Smallest City” in Vermont. (It’s only one square mile.) Working together in recent years, Vergennes residents, business owners and supporters have restored and revitalized the downtown, with a lively mix of preservation and innovation. The Arts Walk is a unique opportunity to savor, share and experience this creative community.
