SculptureFest Returns to Woodstock

Summer in Vermont is a great time to explore sculpture parks. One of the oldest is also one of the most low-key. For over three decades, Charlet and Peter Davenport have hosted SculptureFest at 509 Prosper Road in Woodstock. The parcel of farmland hosts over over two dozen outdoor sculptures year-round with work being rotated in and out every two years. The artists on view are a who’s who of Vermont’s sculpture scene–Hector Santos, Judith Wrend, Bruce Hathaway, to name a few–with some notable out-of-state contributions like Roger Goldenberg, the Sculptural Studios Manager at AVA Gallery in New Hampshire, whose whimsical Field Notes is featured here. The site features one of Bonnie Gale’s “Living Willow” sculptures. A program on Otocast allows visitors to hear audio commentary about the sculpture. Peter works the land and prepares it for visitors. Charlet works with the artists to select and place sculpture. SculptureFest is a labor of love for the Davenports who believe “land belongs to all of us.” The 2018 exhibit officially opens on Saturday, June 30th, 4-7PM. Learn more at www.sculpturefest.org.
