Opening Reception: “Still Life, Landscapes and Stuffed Animals”: Deb Ward Lyons at North End Studio A

Friday, August 3, 5-7PM

“Still Life, Landscapes and Stuffed Animals” is a collection of colorful, Impressionistic-style paintings that will draw the viewer into a connection with each subject. Lyons’ efforts to cry out, “Look up, take notice, pay attention to the homilies of the heavens and the earth!” boldly show the viewer the relationships that can be found between color and shapes.

In her paintings, Deb uses natural light and numerous layers of dry pastels to capture and define her work and to transcend the original shades she lays down at the start. This results in an array of vibrant colors and an aesthetic interplay of light and shadow. With attention to form, space and detail, Deb captures a specific moment in time by either painting directly in the great outdoors or set-up on a kitchen or porch table. Deb considers it a joy and honor to have a day free to soak in the beauty of Vermont. She also finds painting a humbling exercise to represent on paper the splendor of this world.

Deb has painted in pastels for twenty-three years, showing and selling her work for the past eighteen years. Previously working abstractly in oils, Deb switched to pastels with the advent of three young children at home. Deb is now the mother of four grown children and the Executive Director of Puppets in Education. She also works as a standardized patient at UVM’s College of Medicine.

Fifty percent of the proceeds of all paintings sold will be donated to Puppets in Education.
